550ex second curtain

i was playing around with second curtain sync. on my 550ex. My question is, is there anyway to make the flash only go off at the end of the shutter. Cause now it goes off in the begining, and then again at the end. maybe there is no need to make it only go off at the end, but i was just curious.

The flash you see at the beginning is the ETTL preflash. The only way to get rid of it is to switch the 550EX into manual mode.

when i used 10D+550EX for second curtain sync, i just slow shutter speed below 1/60, and it worked really well, even with 1/2 sec or 1.5 sec exposure, after flash goes off, you can zoom in and out or swirl camera a bit to create some interesting light blur on the shot. but i'm not familiar with the problem you mentioned, sounds like it's firing first and second curtain sync in a shot, weird ...

^ Yep.. that preflash is there for a reason. Kinda wish it wasn't, but whatever :)
