Canon 24-70 F2.8L...OR...28-70 F2.8L ??

I feel torn in two as to wich one of these lenses I must purchase.

I can get a used 28-70 on EBay for more or less....$750.

Should I safe more and buy the new 24-70?

Is there that much difference in the performance between the two lenses?
