I just talked to WL customer support about a UV filtered bulb I bought that had a solder problem.

SHe told me they don't sell a UV filtered bulb at all any more and that all their WL and AB bulbs were now a newer 14mm (instead of 12mm) because the old ones were not as short a flash duration as their website spec. The newer 14mm bulbs she said meet the duration specs.

Sorry if this info was recently posted (I did search a bit), but I found it useful so I thought I'd post it. What it means to me is that now the UV filtered bulbs I own and recent bought a few more of are orphans due to the fact they are cooler and I can't replace them. I commonly use three strobes, and want them all them same color temp.

Also she said that for anyone that has bought a bulb or flash unit (I think in the last year) is eligible for a price break on a replacement newer (14mm) bulb.

Let me add that my understanding was that anyone that bought any AB or WL unit or bulb recently (non just UV filtered) was elgible for a substantial savings on a new 14mm bulb. (THe rep told me the AB and WL units all take the same new 14mm bulb).

So if I had it straight, then anyone that thinks they will ever need a replacement bulb can get a substantial break if they do it within whatever the time frame is.

Because my post's title referred only to UV filter bulbs (which WL said they didn't sell many of) I don't know whether this post will get read much.

I was wondering if anyone that reads this post had any personal experience with problems with the older, 12mm WL and AB bulbs having a longer duration than the websigte spec?

For myself, I had done some strobe pics of a person turning on a wood lathe with wood flying etc and was surprised that the turning piece was as blurred as it was, but after doing the math it did not seem as surprising.

I should have asked WL for info on what the actual duration was on all the previous lamps (12mm) and what is the duration for the new 14mm bulbs that they are now buying to solve that long duration issue.
