I did a search but could not really find anything on this, but is there a program that can just do a bulk image resize? Basically I want to point to a folder and have the program run through those images and resize them into another folder.

Is there anything like this?

Irfanview.

There are some parameters that you have to choose for the resizing, but otherwise it will rip through them all.

If you already have photoshop, you can do bulk resize with it as well. Its part of the automate functions, you can add a specific level of sharpening into the action as well, and it all goes into a new folder once done. I can't remember exactly how I did it, it was some time ago, but it was relatively easy.

That's interesting information. It doesn't seem that PS-Elements can bulk-sharpen, though it does bulk-resize and rename. That would be a real time-saver when I shoot an event and want to throw in a modest amount of USM on a group of images.

TOM, can PSE run actions on all files in a directory? That's how PS does it - you run file broswer and pick the files and the action and the save dir.

You can batch-process conversions, rename, resize, and destination folder for images selected in file browser, but PS-E is apparently limited to those functions.

Microsoft has made an Image Resizer Power Toy available as part of the Windows XP Power Toys. It's a free download and installs the resizer (defaults to radio buttons for common screen sizes) as a right-click menu option. It'll make resized copies or replace the originals, and will adjust up or down. Note - ONLY FOR WINDOWS XP!

I've mentioned this program before. CompuPic (http://www.photodex.com/products/compupic/) It can do just about anything you want to an image including batch renaming and batch resizing. You can also add some sharpening and other image adjustments during the resizing. All the images on my site have been run through the CompuPic batch conversion process. With a click of a button I am able to convert from Tiff to Jpeg, reduce size to 800x800, add a small copyright signature, apply a bit of sharpening and put into folder of my choosing. Give it a try it is free for 15 days. They also have a less expensive version CompuPic Express and a more expensive version CompuPic Pro.

ACDSee will also work for this.

The Proofs function in Breezebrowser does this quite well, and also allows lots of options in addition to resizing (I use a little bit of sharpening, but it will do auto-levels & some other PP kind of things, as well as simple frames, watermarks, etc.).
