I'm just wondering. Canon vs generic batteries for the Rebel. Anybody noticed a difference?

I've got 3 generic BP-511 equivelents... I can't tell which one is in my camera....I've had them for about 7 months now... they are no different than the Canon battery as far as I've been able to tell..

That has generally been my experience, too.

I have an Optex battery as well as the brand name 511 for my camera and they both work the same. The cost difference was maybe $10.00-$20.00. I would not put a $10.00 generic battery in my camera. I'd rather spend $60.00 and have a piece of mind. Even Durracell makes batteries for the Rebel. I saw them at Best Buy.

Nice. I was pretty sure that I don't need another battery up until I got the sigma 70-200. Autofocus on the big glass eats MUCH more than on the kit. I tried taking pics of moving seagulls today - it drained fast.

$60 for a battery is rediculous.... you can get a car battery for that! I've put the $10 batteries in my old dreb. and now in my 10D for 7 months or more and don't have a single worry about it, ever....

I bought them from eforcity or something like that...I won them in an ebay auction ....I think I got 2 of them for $7.50 together and the 3rd for another $7 maybe. ?? Something like that...

I've my original Canon and two Generics. The Generics actually outlast the Canon. In fact my latest one is 1800mAh (Canon's is only 1100mAh--at least that is what my Canon one is) and was less than 10 bucks.

And of course the canon charger works with them, right?

I have never seen anything that cheap around here. I suppose web ordering from the U.S. can get me a cheapie.

Another option is the Power 2000 1500MAH batteries from B&H. I have 2 of them. They are great so far and are about $35 each. The Canon one is only 1100MAH so you get more time w/o having to swap.

I've got one Canon and one generic (or "whatever" brand") battery in my grip, and the combination works great.
Bought it from eforcity.com

So many responses, mine wasn't even necessary.... oh well; one more post fro cmM
