View Full Version : My Website - What do you think?

After reading through the thread about whether websites are necessary (of course they are!) I am having doubts about my own site. I designed the site using Frontpage (GASP!) but I use Lightroom to create galleries for my portfolio and integrated SmugMug into my site to sell photos. I also added a Google Checkout button for customers to purchase items not available to SmugMug.

Artistically I know I am losing out to Flash sites. However I really don't like the functionality of most flash sites and many people complain about using them.

I am really just starting out so I have a very limited portfolio but I am working on building it up. I cannot afford to spend $1,500 on a website right now. I am also in the process of creating a "Services" page to highlight the services I offer. So that is one section missing that I am aware of and working on.

So what do you think of my site, all C&C is welcome. Thanks!! :)

Thanks! If it was I didn't put it on there. It was taken in either near Carmel or Monterey, CA (I can't remember...I went to both places that day)

I think with what you had to work with (front page) you did very well. If I were to mark it, I would give it a 6/10. This is comparing it to the best there is on the web photographer wise.
There are 2 benefits to doing it the way you did. 1) you were able to keep your costs down, but at the same time get somewhat of a web pressence, and 2) you are a gifted photographer, so your photos will do the talking and pick up the slack in your website delivery. I think you are on the right track here, but you should consider having a professionally done site down the road - even if it means forking out 1500. Just think of it as your storefront!

I have a tip for you - your URL.
If you want return visitors it helps to have an easy to remember domain name.
No offense but your name- is a bit of a tong twister.
I've checked & I suggest you buy gpphotography.net - which is free.

It's functional, and that's a huge plus, although as already said the theme isn't extraordinary, you have great pictures and I agree that when you can afford it you should look into getting a professional design done.

Good job though
