Hey I just found these forums, and they seem like a cool place to share tips and learn about photography.

I started shooting about 2 years ago and because I ride horses, 8) naturally I started shooting my friends and my trainer and their horses..well one thing led to another and I am trying to get into it professionally. I enjoy shooting wildlife and lanscape as well.

I have a Canon Rebel 2000 with a 28-80 lens and a 70-300 zoom lens (both canon) I find that I never use the smalled lens as it doesnt give me as much depth of field as the longer lens. I also have a polarizing filter and a large zoom (good for up to 20 feet) as attatchments but again, I never use them...(I think they intimidate me!)

Anyways, just thought I;d introduce myself, so feel free to have a wander through my photos in the link below. :D (Sorry for the graininess of some of the photos, I had them uploaded from a different computer and had to save them from off my own webpage, so the quality went WAYYY down!

Comments/Critiques are welcome!

Hello there and welcome to the forum.

This really is a pretty good place with some pretty good people. I was glad to find it since I was (am?) a total newb with a 300D. I myself have just started to shoot horses and was surprised at how interesting they are. Until a few weeks ago I was under the impression that they were for hauling, riding and eating (depending on where you are). But now I am thinking it might be a niche market for me to get started in. Good luck to you.

Hi Gucci Cowgirl and Digital Prophet,

Since you both like horses, I would like to tell you something. The best horse photo I've ever seen was from the recently concluded competition. I loved it very much. And not to my surprise it got the 1st place.

I'll try to find it and post the link here.

Note: not sure if it got 1st or 2nd place. But in anycase they were by the same outstanding photographer, Shakey.

Glad that you liked it.

Photos like these can be disappointing a bit. Because it shaws you (at least me) how far I have to learn to get such a great photo.

Oh well

See and learn

Wow. That is nice. The closest I can get to that is this (http://boardexpression.com/beforum/modules.php?set_albumName=album18&id=CRW_2216&op=m odload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo. php) and this (http://boardexpression.com/beforum/modules.php?set_albumName=album18&id=IMG_1922&op=m odload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo. php). But I am still a newb so I figure I got time and excuses to learn.

For a horse story I almost had my camera pulled out of my hands while it was on a tripod this past weekend by a horse who I wasn't oaying close enough attention to. I even got a pic of th culprit.

thise photos are very beautiful, shows how peaceful and serent those horses are at times. It's just really too bad they are in a zoo and not in the wil dlike they are supposed to be. Did you know that that breed of horse is the ONLY pure strain of wild horse left in the world?

Called the Pzrewalski's (sp?) Horse.

The sunlight is nice and ambiant too.

lol!! why do you say they aren't horses? Just because they are small doesnt automatically make them ponies...

As a welcome to the board I'll post the closest thing to a horse picture that I've ever taken. Sorry I don't have a more appropriate picture.... but I like it, hope you do.

Welcome and Cheers! :D

LowTech I don't know what is stranger: That you were deep in the heart of nowhere taking pictures of dirt roads or that you got a donkey to keep you company while you did it.

BTW, that donkey don't look real impressed.

   You have no idea how in the "heart of nowhere" that picture was taken. No, the donkey wasn't keeping us company, he was pissed. We were interupting whatever it is that donkeys do in the "heart of nowhere"

Wow, I found that a rather strange cooincidence that you would say that since three pictures later on that card here's what I was taking pictures of. :o :o :o

"After nine days I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
there was sand and hills and rings"

Ha ha, loved that donkey's look.

It reminds you of De nero's line in Taxi Driver "are you looking at me!"

Btw, and if I may ask, where were those photos taken.

nb. sorry sGu, I don't know anything about horses.
