I'm looking for some suggestions as to how to improve the search engine rankings for my website www.blackshadow.com.au - I don't know much about the dark arts of SEO - if anyone can give me some pointers as to how I improve the rankings it would be much appreciated.

I think the search terms that need to come up in the rankings are music photographer, music photography, concert photography, concert photographer - that type of thing as well as my name, Melbourne and Black Shadow Photography.

When your designing your website try and be consistent, title, keywords, description and the content on your pages should all be consistent and written with your targetted keyword searches in mind, so before you do that you need to decide what those are. Usually region, counties, cities, towns etc that you want to target + wedding photographer, photographer, wedding photography, photos etc

So on your first page you litter the page title, meta keywords and description with your keywords and then do the same with the initial content of your front page.

So using your zen portfolio just as an example, you should talk about your photography and region in the first paragraph and not what you did before getting into photography, you can mention that later if you want but search engines want to see your back end code tying up properly with your front end content.

When you name your website pages call them the names that are relevant to the content, so the contact us page should be called contact.html and the title should be different from the others along with the back end code, you can retain some keywords but the titles for each page should be different.

Make multiple links on your pages to your other pages, so when you talk in your content about your other pages make them actual links, dont just rely on one single menu for navigation, there should be various ways to get to the same pages and they should be consistent throughout the site.

Dont submit your URL to the search engines until you have version one of the site complete.

Make a site map for you site, upload it, submit it.

Think about adwords whilst your working on your SEO

Install Analytics on your website so you can monitor how things are going.

People charge silly money for SEO stuff so if you can do it yourself you will save a decent wad of cash.
