I took this shot in China last week, but have no idea what kind of plane it is. Is it a WWII fighter? Is it a prop plane with the propeller missing, or a jet? Any help appreciated.

looks like a jet to me... You'll get a better response in the transportation forum though.

I agree wrong section. However I think it is MiG 15, many of which were "sold" in the 'communist' block countries ~ it is a Russian designed & built jet fighter of the 1950's

You are probably correct, wasn't the Shenyang J-5 just the Chinese made version of the MIG ?

The plan is a JET. It's earliest fighter-interceptor in china PLA airforce. It's never show in WWII, because that time China PLA don't had any aircraft. This style plane were first show in Korean War(1950-1953). If you see some red pentacle were printed outside under cabin, it means, the fighter of the plan were shot down how many enemy's plan. One red pentacle means one enemy plan.
I'm a chinese. Just know a little of english. So, above only for U reference.
BTW, can you tell me where r u saw the plan in china? THX.

Actually the Red Bull jet is a MiG-17, not a MiG-15. While they look very similar, the 17 is a bit larger and has three fences on the wings, not two like the 15. Also, the MiG-17 has an afterburner and the MiG-15 doesn't.

One G, not two.
The U.S. likes to give names to enemy aircraft. Zero, Zeke, Foxbat, etc.

They give F names to fighters - Fulcrum, Flanker, Foxbat and B names to bombers Badger Bison. H for Helicoptors. Its to reduce errors over radio transmissions

Looks so much cooler in red!
I realize fully the need for sponsorship as this airplane has to be horrendously expensive to fly and keep on the airshow circuit, but I'd really like to see it flying in it's original historically accurate markings.
