I was planning on buying the 10D this Saturday from Canoga Camera in person since they have the cheapest price I have been able to find from a B&M store. They have it for $1237.94 before tax, anyone know of a cheaper place in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, or Ventura counties?

Thanks!

That's a heck of a price, especially from Canoga. I haven't found them to be that inexpensive on most things I've priced there. Also check Samy's and find out when they're having their next 'no sales tax sale'. It still might be cheaper to get it from someplace out of state.

I would also suggest Samys or Bel Air? Might be able to bargin you way around.

Again, out of state might be cheaper.

I would REALLY be surprised if you could find it cheaper than the $1237.94 you say Canoga Camera has it for, from any reputable dealer. Inherently, Canon NEVER lowers their price on a current model, and I've been told that the markup is very little. Very strange.

If you dont mind ordering online, digitalliquidators had them for less than a grand for imported modles last time I looked.

I think Samy's is having their free shipping sale until the end of August. That won't help much if you live near there, but it was helpful for me! :)

Headcase:
Digital Liquidators is probably one of the crookedest dealers around, at least according to ResellerRatings.

Old Uncle Belmondo wants you all to be very careful about buying from people like this becasue it's an invitation to disaster. Also, be careful about recommending these places. You could lose a friend pretty easily.

Try Samy's. See if they will match the price or beat it. You can't lose on a phone call or visit. A trip to Samy's always means coming home with something new for me. Often Samy's has a no tax sale, so maybe they can beat it that way.

I am only willing to buy this camera from a brick and mortor store (B&M), and a well established one at that. I've bought less expensive items online from B&H and KEH with no problems, I'm just not comfortable from buying online something this expesive.

Thanks for the suggestions with Sammy's, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what I can manage since they have it for $1299, the same price as Calumet. I'll be watching the boards for more suggestions.

Thanks everyone.

B&H is about as brick and mortar as you can get. I was in their store in May, and it's amazing! You can buy from them with complete confidence.

I'm jealous, I'd love to be able to walk into B&H, seriously. I can't complain about the variety of camera stores out here, just nothing as big as B&H from the little I've seen so far. And I know I'd save on tax from B&H, but the total price with shipping would only $20 cheaper. I'll stick with Canoga unless I can find a better local price.

Thanks everyone!

Do you want a cheap price, or a great product? You get what you pay for... remember that.

I have been into their store as well and was totally amazed. They have a very efficient operation there.

Back on topic...

I got my 10D from Samys in May and I checked my receipt and they charged me approz $1400 for the body, but discounted the hell out of everything else.

So you might find the best deal at your original retailer.

I buy almost all my stuff from B&H over the web. I have been in there twice, but as I live 3000 miles away...that's not a common occurence. If proce is your only concern, go with what you've found. But B&H is a solid place. I got my 10D there over a years ago. It was a dud, so I called them, got my RMA # and sent it back and 2 weeks later had a new one (this was when there was a min of 2 weeks wait to get 10Ds).

Where I live, my choices are limited. I could drive to KEH in Atlanta in about 2 hours, but they don't have a walk-in retail operation. My other choice is to buy "Quantaray" everything at the local Wolf camera, but that isn't going to happen.

I've bought from the following via the internet with no problems:

KEH
B&H
Canoga
Samy's
Adorama

Of those 5, Adorama was a little slow, and their pushy sales people did call to try to get me to buy more, but they still delivered the goods.

The only good camera shop I've visited in person lately was Cord Camera's "superstore" in Cleveland, Ohio. The company operates out of Columbus and is reputable. Unfortunately, their internet sales right now is only through e-bay and they seem to be a bit higher priced than others.

Well, here is my 2cents. I have purchase from 3 places since I got started in photograpy

Best Buy (got my 300D)
B&H (50mm 1.8)
Canoga Camera (10d, 100-400L, CF cards, battery, battery grip, Camera bag, various Sigma lenses, which canoga accepted back when I was not satisfied with Sigma)

All 3 places have been good to me in regards to Customer Satisfaction. But Canoga will now be my main place to shop. Canoga helped me send in my 100-400l for calibration. From the time the lense left Canoga Camera and by the time Canon sent back how much the repaires would cost, my lens got damaged. It was going to cost me $600 in repairs because canon stated it was user abuse. After going back and forth with Canon, Canoga Camera helped me thru the entire process, the lens was fixed under warranty and it is working well. How do you ask Canoga Camera was able to get Canon to fix the lens under warranty, you ask? Simple, when I turned in my lens, Eddie looked over my lens with care. Removed the Hood and caps for me and tagged it for shipment. Ok, so you may say that is normal. Yes, but what saved me was that Eddie rememberd my lens being in 100% perfect condition. No scratches or damage visible on the lens. When Canon sent Canoga a picture of my lens, Eddie verified that my lens was not in that condition when it left Canoga Camera or when I turned in my lens. With that, Canon had to incure the cost. I am not stating Canon was responsible in the damage of my lens, but I was not negligent and niether was Canoga Camera. Becuase of this type of Customer Service, I will shop no where else but Canoga Camera. Even if the prices are a little higher than other places. With this experience, I don't think saving a few dollars here and there can make up for Canogas Customer Service. Ok,if there is a difference of say thousand of dollars, I may just have to think about it, MAYBE. I live about 80 miles from them. I work about 40 miles from them. So when I need something, I drive to them when I can.
This is my 2 cents worth and hope it helps you out.

Thanks for sharing your experience with Canoga. That's what good customer service is all about.

I've been fortunate enough that I haven't had to send anything back to Canon, but its comforting to know that a dealer will help with the process. The one lens I got from Canoga arrived in perfect operating condition (which is true of all new lenses I've bought from reputable dealers and individuals).

It is a pleasure to share my experience with Customer Service at Canoga Camera. The other 2 places that I have purchased items in the past have had good Customer Service too, I just feel the Canoga Camera's service was way above and beyond anything I have ever dealt with.

Thanks again to everyone for their help and opinions on this. I ended up buying it from Samy's in Santa Ana. They were friendly and efficient, and I'm happy. I've had the weekend to play with it and I can't tell you how much I'm loving it.

Welcome to the legions of 10D owners. I'm glad you were pleased with Samy's service.
