I posted this in another forum but I considering that this is about lighting, I wanted to get everyone's opinion. There is an expo in NY that will be happening in a couple weeks. I am registered with one seminar regarding Lightroom and workflow to stock photos for agencies.

Essentially, I'm on the fence as to whether I should do a seminar regarding lighting as opposed to my initial choice.

Here is a link of the exact details: CLICK HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=387410)

Personally, I think you would probably get more from attending the lighting seminar than you would from the Lightroom seminar. There's nothing like physically being there and seeing the actual setup of the lights when it comes to learning about lighting techniques. Reading books about them can only take you so far.

I'm with Leo.
You can learn software and workflow through books and online resources.
For lighting, there's nothing like being there.

Curtis,

Considering the options I have with these Seminars, which do you think is a good class to take in Lighting? (HERE IS THE LINK (http://www.photoplusexpo.com/ppe/exhibit_hall/conference/conference_info.jsp))

Keep in mind, I just want to get a better understanding in lighting, as opposed to, creating my own studio, etc. Could you suggest what I should take that could be very beneficial?

All you can do is read through the descriptions, go for what appeals to you, and hope for the best. I would probably go see Bambi Cantrell, just because she's hot. ;)

Looks like a pretty comprehensive seminar, though. Wish I could be there!

LOL.

A picture can be worth a thousand words, but I'm pretty sure there are a few words that were left out. Who knows...lol.

Ok, let me narrow it down for you.

Between this..

or this

Those two seems ok, the others that are available are like, their shooting style and creative methods.

I would go with the second option.

Michael Grecco is highly regarded but his seminar sounds more like a slideshow/book promotion. (Buy my new book! There's nekkid chicks in it!)

The second one I think will be infinitely more valuable with its real-time demonstration. And the model will probably be hotter than Bambi.

Would you ever ask someone if you should buy a pair of tan casual slacks or a pair of khaki cargo pants? I hope not, because we do not know your style, your needs (in terms of what you need the pants for), nor what is in your wardrobe already. Similarly we have no idea what you shoot, what kind of courses you have taken already, what books you may have purchased/read on the topic of photography, etc. We have no basis for decision other than our own biases!

"You need to buy a red Miata. You need to buy a 70-200 zoom and a 24mm TSE lens. You need to buy a RRS L-plate. You need to buy a book "Understanding Exposure". You need to get an Eclipse sensor cleaning kit. And a radio transmitter to link the Sekonic meter with the PW radio receiver. Ohm and don't forget the extra horsepower chip from Dinan Engineering for the BMW."

All of those are pointless recommendations knowing NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOU or your equipment and your needs and your knowledge. Are we making our point?!

Who is "are we making our point?" This seems to be your opinion. What Curtis provided is exactly what I'm looking for. I asked Curtis specifically because he seems to know a lot about lighting, in general and given his experience he can make a better assessment as to what they may teach which may or may not have any value in it.

Read this statement and learn from it.

See...that is experience talking. I don't know who the heck Michael Grecco is. From Curtis' experience, I can see that although Michael Grecco is a known, highly regarded photographer, it's seems to not be worth the time, as opposed to what you can learn from the second demonstation.

To put it in your terms, "Would you ever ask someone if you should buy a pair of tan casual slacks or a pair of khaki cargo pants?"

No, but I would ask, have you tried or has anyone have any experience between A docker tan pants and a Walmart tan pants?

All of those are pointless recommendations knowing NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOU or your equipment and your needs and your knowledge.

You don't need to know me, you don't need to know what size of pants I wear, nor what style of pants I like.

The question is, Am I making my point?

Curtis:
Thanks for your recommendations. Although some may think it's pointless.

It would certainly have been a better question to ask "Does anyone know about any of these speakers and the quality of information they can impart?" and also provide a little background information about yourself.

You had merely asked "which would you suggest I go to", to which I responded with the "it depends on what you are looking for", which is a perfectly reasonable response in an effort to HELP in spite of your very open ended post.

BTW, what would you ask if I asked, "Which lens should I buy next?"
