Please help. I searched the site and found some cheerleader photos but I didn't find what I needed to know.
I have volunteered to take the Jr High cheerleader photos and would like some ideas on how to pose them for individual and group photos.
I have done football and baseball teams but the cheerleader thing is new to me. (This is a package pay job.)
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If you've already done football and baseball teams, you'll most likely have more ideas than me. But, since you ask and noone has responded, I'll give it a try. Have them do some of their routines for some "candid" shots, maybe even for individual shots. Then take them out to a park or something with some background, and take the posed idividual shots as well as the stadard team shots. Get shots of the fliers in the air and other dynamic shots that show off what they do.

Thanks for the reply. Good idea - I do a lot of action photography so I may give them a chance to show off their stuff. I have taken candid action shots of the high school cheerleaders before during games.
What I am at a loss about is how to pose them for the still shots. I know they need pom poms and maybe a horn as props but I don't know the best body positioning to try. Any suggestions are welcome.

Any time I need new poses I search google/yahoo for examples. You have to go through a lot to find good ones (lotta crap out there) but you do find some good ones.

It may be a little late but I posed most of them on their knees with the poms on the ground. Also standing at an angle with the poms held in their hands and press against their hips. Hope that makes sense

Not cheerleaders .. But I made the mistake of getting women footballers to stand and look down while I shot upwards for ..for effect... I should have got them to kneel and look upwards..
why?
Anyone?
Because the women looking down towards me mostly ended up with double chins.. they wern't impressed... luckily I was able to do them again without any fuss :)
