Why did you cjoose to shoot at f/4 with a 2.8 lens, images look a little soft but nothing a little Unsharp mask wouldnt resolve.

Yet Another who doesnt Know that the 70-200 is a tad soft and he was looking to get Sharp photos =D the first one is best, but i think the 3rd is pointless =P and 2nd is OOF(out of focus) but i cant complain since you captured it before the Ai Servo kicked in at that spot

Hmmm I try to shoot at F4 for football and will for rugby this aft... not for sharper as Adamora suggests as all shots go through some USM anyways

Most shots have multiple players.. with football its mostly 2 players.. with f4 you will have both players in focus and the background still out.. especialy if shooting from behind goals as background furthur away or games such as OP posted where background can be miles away :)

At night when I need 2.8 yes the background is more OF for better effect but if the play is closer as required for night time then I often get one player in focus and one out with 2.8

I do have the advantage of a lens that will go to 300 giving me even more chance of a better oof background but as its a zoom then its often at 200 or less..

On the whole I prefer f4 for sport to get multiple players in focus.. positioned right you still can seperate from the background.

But I do know a lot who prefer to use the 2.8 and get very good results.. so each to his own of course ... whatever works best :)

Ive always shot wide open but thats down to habit and the available light i suppose, as you say Kipax each to their own, so youd recomend f/4 for football. Im doing a footy game this afternoon and if the lights good enough ill give it a try

I just did accy v blackpool youth game at 10.30 this morning (I am currently on an 11 games in 12 days stint) and that was clear blue sunshine with harsh early morning brightness.. set manual iso 200, f4 and shutter was 2500 and up.. had I gone to 2.8 it would have been silly speeds (dont like iso 100) f4 in good sunlight and see how many more keepers you get for being in focus .. I bet you see a difference :)
