I just got the 10D and a 50mm 1.8 :). The batter has been charging for almost 2 hrs and the battery light is steady. Question I have is...when can I take out the battery!! I really wanna stick it in the camera :(.

Mike,
I always leave mine in for at least 4 hours once the light is solid or overnight, whichever comes first. But I personally don't think that your going to hurt anything by popping it in the camera now...

So... that battery is NOT charged when it's solid? :?

I thought you're ready when it is. Confused

Well you know how you're suppose to condition the batter on it's first charge and all...lol. But i'm tempted.

They come at 10 bucks a piece. My time is worth more than 10 bucks an hour...

I don't remember the exact percentage, but when the light on the charger goes solid, the battery is approximately 90% charged. Leaving it on the charger for a short time longer will peak the battery to fully charged. But you can take the battery off the charger and start using it anytime after the light stays on solid.

I just took some shots around the room and DAMN is this thing cool! I've never owned an automatic slr before, only manual focus ones...Too bad it's dark now...oh well, after exams I'll have lots of fun w/ it :P.

I agree except that if I remember correctly it actually takes quite awhile to charge from 90% to 100%. It was easier with my G camera because the LED goes steady amber at 90% and then steady green at 100%. On the 10D, you just have to guess.

Who needs the ten percent? Honestly! Raise your hand!

I never use my Canon charger, I'm too impatient.

I almost always use my Lenmar Mach1 Speedcharger, full charge in under an hour.

My Canon charger is my worst one, both my Lenmar and my Power 2000 chargers can use mains or 12V. When I go away I take both the Lenmar and the Power 2000, I never bother with the Canon.

What does the manual say?
Have fun with your new camera! 8)

It's tempting to play w/ the camera, sitting on the desk next to me!

The manual doesn't say how long for the first charge, but I gave up after an 2 hours and a bit of watching it in the charger and played w/ it :). It's just like my film SLR! It's so much different compared to even the prosumer digicams, like the c5050 I have.
