Hoverflies

Here's a couple of hovers :D
The first 2 were from 3 days ago the light was perfect, the last 2 from yesterday the light was too bright but these two were not too bad

The first one (#1,2) is not in my book have seen it on here before cant remember what he is though :oops:

Hiya Pete,

Great series of shots, I gota a feelin that your first is Helophilus pendulus but I'm not 100% on that, I struggle trying to memorise all the different critters

Mark is correct with the ID, it is Helophilus pendulus from the Eristalini tribe :D

These hoverflies are amazing its not until they are magnified that you see their wonderful colours and patterns. Apparently there are about 250 species in the UK so there's lots more to find :D

Very nice shots Pete, especially #1 and #2 where the light was better. Not much you can do about light :( Sweet looking hoverflies, saw one very similar to first one a few days ago but didn't have my camera on me...these were from Chester zoo I presume?
