My boxing jobs are few and far between sadly... but here are a few from last night:
Boxing can be a painful experience for the participants. Yep, really!
Eye treatment between rounds...

Nasal cotton bud frenzy...
http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boxo003.jpg
Somewhat in the wars methinks...
http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boxo006.jpg
A bit of fighting action:
On the ropes... and a punch to the groin region is unwelcome...

Accuracy is everything if you're going to defeat your opponent...
http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boxo004.jpg
Sent reeling...
http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boxo005.jpg
That's gonna hurt...
http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boxo007.jpg
...and, yep, it's all over (you may be pleased to hear!)

Ta for looking.

Excelent pics... I notice iso 2000. what are the stages between 1600 and 3200 Gavin.. I presume its a straight leap from 3200 to 6400 but interested to know 1600 upwards ??

I believe it's 2000 and 2500, at least on the Mark III.
Awesome shots as always. Thanks.

Steve:lol: Cheers Steve... Thaxton is certainly great value! Have to say (and bear in mind I'm no boxing expert) but I had Stewart ahead for the first six or seven rounds... Thaxton's determination saw him through in the end (and opening up that nasty cut above Stewart's right eye). Haven't seen the Sky footage yet - hope I don't feature too much!
awesome shots!! i like the accuracy one the most!Cheers Joetaco!

Great captures Gavin. Boxing is the hardest sport I've ever covered. Just ordered my mk3 so pleased to see you have none of the dreaded focus issues.

If there is anything that sets boxing apart it is blood ... followed closely by the head blurrers with a spray of Vaseline and sweat. You think the expanded pixel bit depth makes the blood bloodier? I notice you've stepped up from the "traditional" 1/500th, f/3.5, ISO 800-1600 a little bit ... this because of better noise with 1DMIII? I'll be having a go at MMA with 1DMIII near the end of the month and may try that.

Looking forward to seeing your MMA stuff! Jubbloids.

In the same vein of non-measurement 'by feel only' I agree that the noise reduction is good on the 1DMIII so I'll likely follow your lead. I do think the focus is a touch off (all this shooting at f/2.8 doesn't give one much leeway) so I will be looking into calibrating my lenses soon ... have you done that on any yet?
