This is the first portrait I have ever done. It was taken in my living room using a Canon 10D with a 28-135 IS USM lens.

For lighting I used the celing light (100watt I think) and I also put a desk lamp on the floor and aimed it to the side of the model.

Settings: ISO 400. 1/6 second. f5.6. 95mm

I would greatly appreciate comments and suggestions.

Her finger on her cheek bothers me. Other than that it isn't bad for incandescent lighting you described.

I've tried to brighten the image in Photoshop. I've increased the highlights and midtones.

I agree with conk about the finger... also the shadows in the picture are distructing...the most obvious ones are: the one cast by the finger and the one that makes half of the wall look darker. Also I think it would have been better if you shot it at the level the model was at instead of shoting from above....further more I do not think that the back of the chair adds anything to the shot.. in fact it distracts from the rest of the picture if the shot was taken from far away and the chair was in full view it would make more sense but in this case you should have used something without a visible back...that's all I can see at first glance...not a bad first try though.

Thanks for the info. :) It was also difficult to get a good shot because she's not relaxed in front of a camera.

I will probably try some more later today.
