I am shopping for a CF for my G2. I have a Lexar 512, 40X.
I don't quite understand (please forgive a beginner) if having extra speed (such as 60X or more) translates to my being able to take shots in quicker succession.
I know it relates to the speed the image is copied, but I don't know if the image has to be completely copied before you can shoot again.
Is there a buffer?

A couple of detailed looks at CF cards:
DPReview - http://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare/default.asp
Rob Galbraith - http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007
The second is more up-to-date. I think the DPReview one has been around since at least early 2002, based on the source of the link I had to it, plus the limited speeds of the cards included.
Unfortunately, neither of those include g-series cameras in their tests, and I'm not entirely sure that g-series cameras can take advantage of the faster cards (by which I mean I don't know if they perform faster with the higher rated card; there's no reason they shouldn't opperate fine with them). I'm pretty sure a-series cameras don't get any benefit, but based on those reviews the Canon DSLRs do. Based on my own limited experience, I have several standard SanDisk cards, plus I recently bought a Lexar 12x. I tried a whole series of tests, and except for reading from the card to the computer, I couldn't tell any appreciable difference. That's not to say a 40x+ card might not fare better.
