I am getting ready to do some Senior Pics and probably get back into doing a few weddings a year and wondering if I should get another 10D or even a DRebel for a backup. I was going to get a used MF for a back up to my 10D but have hate to have to replace glass too. My current backup is my Elan 7E which is like new because of the 10D. :D
How many pics can I estimate taking before my camera needs servicing, I remember hearing that the shutter is estimated at a certain number of pics.

:D My thread about it is floating around. :P
I don't thinks there's a problem. Especially if you do it commercially... shutter cost much less than one cent per "click"
BTT: I don't shoot professionally, so I have my rebel and Zenit as a backup I guess... And also S1 IS.

I keep a cheap Rebel G, because it uses the same lenses as my 10D, and an AE-1 with a motor drive. I also have a Minolta Dimage 5 that I take out when no one can see me.

I have a Mk II, 10D, and 1D (Mk I?). I'm presently torn between the 1D and the 10D as a backup camera because there are times when the smaller, lighter 10D body might be desireable. The two 1Ds are quite large and heavy. It's a very nice problem to have.

The whole issue of backup cameras actually bugs me-i guess it has a lot to do with my stingyness  and amatuer status
Because i deal in 2nd hand cameras a little,i try to keep a film rebel body around in case i need a spare...but i've never needed such a thing so i don't bother now.
I might even have to throw away that roll of film that's sitting in the fridge eventually

I was shooting a wedding one time and the comand dial on my 2 month old A2E broke on the first roll of film, I was glad I had my backup A2E or would have had a dissapointed wedding party.

Hi Dennykyser,
same thing happened to me once upon a long time ago. Was shooting a wedding with the eos5 (a2e in the usa) and had the last few formals to do. Reached up and twisted the dial with my thumb, made a sound like a breaking pencil. You know the sounds that you camera should make and when it comes up with a new one you worry. Next thing I know the command dial is just rotating freely, bugger. I look up at the posed group and say "Just 1 second need to change film" turn my back, open the camera bag at my feet and swap out to a 500n. About 10 minutes later my wife who was also shooting the wedding says "What are you using that camera for?" to which I reply "cos i've broken the other one". The bad news was that the camera was 13 months old, so was just out of waranty, good news is that canon still did it for free.
Currently our main cameras are 1Ds's with backups of 2 D60's. If only one of us is attending a shoot then the backup is the other 1Ds.
Best regards

I have a EOS 30 film body and a G3. Actually, no backups yet :-)
My next camera (DReb or 10D) will be my 1st camera and the other two will be digital and film backups.

Yes those a2's were known for that comand dial.. was an awful feeling when there were no more clicks.... Canon has always been good about fixing there problems, i was not as lucky when I sent my Elan 2E to them after about dropping camera while attempthing to change film at a Daytona race, when I caught camera, one finger was through the shutter !@#$%^&*. although I was able to put the shutter leafs back together and shoot with both cameras, when sent in for warranty repair, was told, that was not a camera defect, was user misuse. I never argued and used the camera for years with the slightly bent, and once in a while sticking shutter.

If the 10D breaks, out comes the D30. If that breaks, my old Phillips pos will do. And when all else fails my little girls BARBIE-CAM!!! (Which can be shot thethered to the laptop) Think a big white lense draws attention?! Just try the little pink, flower encrusted kilo-pixel wonder!

I am contemplating a second DSLR for backup though - but I really want to wait for Photokina this time. Oh well, the Elan operates very-much like the 10D and might just come in handy if I need it.

Almost forgot, my new cell phone has a camera. I swear one of these days I am going to show up at a shoot and walk in with just that cell phone and start shooting. Bet that would get some reactions.
You know since the 10D my elan gets very little use, the other day I shot with it and it is truly a great camera, would never sell it because would not come close to bringing what it worth. That is one great camera that will not get much use with the Drebel, and 10D being around. I wonder what the pics would have been like if I had went L back in the 35mm film days. ???

I will probably regret saying this here...hehe...but I cannot get over how AWESOME my 35mm Elan 7n is...granted I only have access to black and white abilities in the dark room, but thats cool with me...these last few weeks, my 300d has been my backup camera...just having a blast with film
if my 300d had the same focusing system as the 7n...i would literally be in heaven...

D30 is still my main camera. Getting a bit old now but still pretty good.
1000FN film body (rebel to you US citizens) for backup, I actually loaded that old film last week so now I have to use it.
Digital Ixus V3 for when I don't want to carry a whole SLR outfit.
Zeiss Ikon Nettar 515/2 6*9cm rollfilm camera - because its fun to play with sometimes.
When I get a MK2 they all might get downgraded one step
