View Full Version : My folder that contains all of my photos won't open...

I have Windows 2000Pro

If I go to "My Computer" and try to open the folder where I keep my photos, the pointer + hour glass icon appears and it just sits like that and never opens. ??? Every other folder opens normally, and I can still open my photos in Photoshop and other programs. But I always organize them through "My Computer" so this is extremely inconvenient. :? It had never done this until late last night, and as far as I know I didn't change a thing. :(

If you haven't powered down and re-booted,, try that. Then try a scan disk or defrag..See if you can get to the files thru ms explorer?? I had a similar prob and a reboot fix's it....

Thanks Jerry, I'm going to try a defrag right now...

Well I couldn't run the defrag at all, and when I tried a message window popped up which said this:

The dynamic link library ATL.DLL could not be found in the specified path C:\WINNT\system32;.;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT\sys tem;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32\W bem;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\

Ben, I don't know what you have but I would start backing up any files I could,,,NOW!!! Looks like software clobbered, might be a virus,, Get as much back up as you can.. I just went through a virus for ad-ware and ended up formating and reloading all software from scratch.. Luckly I had good file back up and recovered failrly quickly,, :? 2 days :? to reload everything...
Good luck

I can't back anything up because I don't have a CD burner. I bought one a couple of weeks ago but no one could get it to work. :( I hate computers.

If it's mainly the photos you're worried about, buy an account at pbase or fotki and start uploading to the net. Both sites give you the option of locking albums with a password. I wouldn't use webshots for this. It depends on how many photos you have if this is a viable option because it will be slow even if you have a fast connection.

For your data files use the floppy, unless you have huge data files the floppys will hold alot.

Another option is to get another computer and network them so you can share the files.

I'm no computer nerd these were just the first thoughts I had. Perhaps others will have more suggestions. Unless someone here comes up with a magic fix plan on getting your computer in to a reputaple repair shop ASAP!

Good Luck!

Thanks for your help guys. :) I have a friend coming by later that is fairly knowledgable with computers, so maybe he will have some ideas.

How much space to sites like Pbase give you? I have about 9 gigs of pictures, but of course I wouldn't have to save some of them.

Don't know about pbase but fotki is unlimited storage on a paid account.

Again, good luck!

Did you try booting in safe mode? Can you see the files in DOS? This is why you back up! Try to copy the files in the file  into another file in DOS.

P.S. Set down the hammer. Do not hurt the computer!
Oh and get Linux!
