for photographers who have the whole set-up, two or more bodies, extensive studi equipment and all the other works... etc
when you first started out, how long did it take to actually make more money than what you spent on all your gear?

But, I tend to buy equipment that a job requires, when I think I will use the piece enough in the future that renting will cost more in the long run.
I am eagerly hoping that at some point the purchasing will level off, and I hope it happens before I start having to replace existing gear. I've lucked out for the most part so far.

I guess it depends on what you shoot & how effective your marketing is? I saw a guy in a craft show this weekend selling 8X10"s for $15. Not my idea of fun.
My 300D & kit lens paid for the 70-200 f/4, the 28-70 F/2.8 & the 20D,in that order in one year. Your results may differ. ;)

I have a 2000sw ft studio, all the toys that go with it (lighting, stands, grip, props, etc), 2 high end Canon 1DMkII and 1DsMkII bodies, L lenses, studio van, etc. It took about 2-3 years to break into the black, fairly typical for a business.
