Just got the 300d, quick question. Everything was sealed when I received the camera. Upon taking it out of the box it sounded like something was loose inside, not really sure though. If I should shake the camera I can hear something. I don't have a CF card yet, but did charge the battery and gave it a try just in preview mode, seems to work fine.
Is there anything I need to worry about here or is a slight noise ok? This only comes in when I shake it, which I don't do that often. Any info would be great. Hopefully it is normal and nothing major. Thanks.

Is it the camera orientation sensor? My G3 has one and it makes noise. I don't know if the rebel has that though.

I don't think so. We've talked about this before, and I think the generally held opinion is that it's the flash rattling around a little bit. Obviously if the camera doesn't work properly, it's a big problem. Otherwise it's probably not a concern.
And if someone tells you it's the film take-up reel, get away from that person as fast as you can.

That is (most likely) the orientation sensor you're hearing (senses when you are shooting portrait rather than landscape). Perfectly normal.

Belmondo's right ... my flash does rattle a little if I shake my camera. However, if I just gently turn my DRebel to the portrait orientation, I hear a slight little click that I believe is the orientation sensor. Either way, a little rattling is normal with the DRebel. I wouldn't be concerned as long as everything is functioning properly.

Cool, you guys are awesome, instant answers. I appreciate the information. It makes sense it being the orientation sensor. I have some definite reading to do, the manual is very detailed. Can't wait to try this thing out. I am really glad I made this choice to purchase this camera, I was going to get a POS Canon S-60 or something like that, fine camera for its use, but I am glad I got this. I am sure I will be posting many more items in the future. I am just getting back into photography, took the good old college course and did very well. Now I just have to update my F stop knowledge and all of that fun stuff. Thanks again.

Just something to add. In the manual it says that the rebel will make that noise and that it is the orientation sensor making it.
Cheers,
