Henry, Sindri, Reyno,
Thanks for the feedback and comments. I thought it was appropriate that my first bird shots of the morning be of a sleeping heron. ;) Glad you all liked the image.

Nice capture of this dreaming bird...Wonder why they stand on 1 leg like this.. I've seen owls standing on 1 leg while they snooze too. Seems like it would be hard to ballance....steve

Thanks Mitch. I guess his alarm didn't go off.

Thanks Scott. Actually the Avatar is from the Pelagic Birding Boat Trip in the Gulf of Maine that we took last week. They have all these whales identified by their tail markings. This is a humpback whale by the name of New Moon who was first seen in the Gulf of Maine back in 1984, I believe the naturalist said. It is amazing. They have a catalog of all these tail shots and then are able to match them up. I was lucky to catch this one as New Moon was doing head stands and tail slaps on the water,

Thanks Steve. Not sure why they stand on one leg but a lot of (all) birds seem to do it. I have photos of tiny little songbirds standing on one leg, Gulls on one leg, ducks on one leg and now GBH on one leg.

Funny how their eyes close at a diagonal angle! You could crop some of the bottom out, leaving a square composition. I think there is too much empty space below as is.

Thanks for the info on the whales Ed, they are an amazing animal and I didn't realize they lived to such long ages. What a wonderful opportunity to get so close.
