Is there any way to take out the center column on my tripod when I do not want to use it? I want to be able to make it lower to the ground when needed.

I have a Dynatran 828BL tripod, I already asked Amvona and they said that you just have to cut off the center column f you do not want it. But they do not sell the center column separate, so I cannot have a long and short one.

I would like to know if any other company (bogen/manffroto, benro, etc.) make and adapter that I could attach to just the legs without the column.

Anyone know of anything like this?

To my knowledge, the only way to do this is to buy a tripod without a center column at all (like a Gitzo). Are you using a lens with a rotating tripod collar? If so, you may be able to get lower by reversing the column and hanging the camera. Or hell, even if you don't, you could work upside down. Did that for a still life on the beach at night once, though, and it's not very pleasant...

I don't like reversing the column, it is slow and awkward.

Would this fit in a Dynatran tripod?

I have an 858 and the little plastic bit at the bottom of the column comes out so you can then reverse the column so you camera is now between the legs

A lot of MAnfrotto's tripods you can also unscrew the centre column leaving a very short portion attached to the head at the top.

The Bogen/Manfrotto 3021BPro (also known as the Manfrotto 055ProB) tripods produced in the last couple of years have a two-piece center column that can do precisely what you are describing. The center column can also be mounted horizontally, allowing far more versatility in where/how you support a camera. For example, the camera could be held over a table aimed straight down at the table.

Making the changes to the center column is a very easy and quick process.

I am not looking to buy a tripod though, possibly just a short center column. I want to be able to get to ground level quickly, so reversing the column isn't what I need. I would just cut off the center column that I have, but I am afraid that I will need it sometimes.

So will any other manufacturer's short center columns fit in the Dynatran?

I wish that I could just go to a good camera store and try a center column from another manufacture, but there are not good ones around here.
