Taken at Langvlei, Wilderness National Park, close to our home on the Southern Coast of South Africa. They are very beautiful birds, I hope I have done this one justice :), your comments are very welcome, john

Very nice John,you certainly captured this one wonderfully.Similar to the ones in the UK, how do you tell male / female,over here male has an all black beak and the female`s beak has a black upper and a red bottom.

Thanks aligator, a lot more vivid blue on ours, sexes are alike, juv's have black beaks changing to orange/red when approaching adulthood, john

What a stunning bird and the matching beak and feet, ready for a date.

But when you said a Malachite I was expecting a green colour??? A little like the Malachite Sunbird.
