so you want a color photo with the birdhouse black and white. or the other way around?
either way, just select it with something like the polygon lasso tool and desaturate.

Rob_m told you right. Hopefully you have an image editing program such as Photoshop Elements. If so, this will be pretty easy. Just select whatever portion of the image you want B&W, and desaturate it.
