Here are some motor sport pics from my first real outing with my new 70-200 f4L lens. Photos were taken at a local race meeting at Sandown Park, Melbourne, Australia. It's a shame the main straight was the only section open for the public and this was the only spot I could take pictures. This is my first L lens and is a great lens for the price.

Nice shots - looks like you have your panning technique sorted :)

Circuits are always a bummer for getting different angles. Takes ages to walk round them, loads of people and not much access unless you have a press pass or infield access.

I like the shot you took at 1/90 best, looks smooth, and nice contrasting blurry background.
All the images look good though.

What is the percentage of shots that are in focus? I tried photographing flying seagulls and most of them are blurry

About 40% were in focus , but I did experiment with low shutter speeds between 1/60-1/350. If I shoot 1/350 and faster I do get a much higher percentage but as everyone knows the faster you go thiings start to look static.

SHot #2 & #3 are the prize shots. Good work.

Nice work and the 70-200mm f/4L is a great lens.

I bought one for hand held shots at motor circuits but strangely I find that I prefer a heavier lens for panning now. Something like the 100-400 or the Sigma 120-300mm. I think it's because the heavier lens allows me to make a smoother panning motion.

Great shots, but how did you get the drivers on the wrong side of the car without reversing the printing :?: :P

Nah - we race bicycles on ovals. Car's go on race tracks :)
