My photo dealer told me today that Canon is coming out with a new 20D with 8.2 mega pixel, maybe 1.3 x factor plus 2 new lenses -
EF-S 10-22mm lens and EF-S 18-85 IS lens. The price is almost the same as Canon 10D around US$1500-1700. Anybody heard about this yet? :?:

Your photo dealer looks at Internet photography forums too much and either he really believes what people fantasize, or he tries to make his clients believe it so that they want to come back to his store.
Canon doesn't announce new cameras in advance. There have been lots of speculations about new cameras and lenses. Nobody outside Canon knows what's real - what your dealer tells you is just guesswork and wishful thinking... :roll:

What do you mean 'doesn't even touch my 35mm'--in what terms? Accuracy, speed?

i always thought that the 10D did have the 7 point with 35 metering zones straight out of the eos 30/33?? :?:

Hi all, I thought I would call Canon NZ and ask them. This is what the office girl in the sales departement told me, Eos 20D, 8mp, released in September, several pre production cameras are in NZ at the moment. She had no idea what a crop factor was so can't confirm if is 1.3 or 1.6, the RRP is 3299 NZD, so about 2100 USD at current exchange rates, but given the disparity between NZD prices and USD prices I guess about 1500 USD.

I'm sorry, even the 20D name seems ridiculous
It doesn't follow with any of the previous canon naming conventions at all
I really can't imagine anyone genuine in Canon giving info like that away before announcement.

IMO, Canon is letting us down on the lens front...

i heard the d80 (http://www.tranexp.com:2000/Translate/index.shtml?from=nor&to=eng&type=url&url=http%3A%2 F%2Fwww.akam.no%2Fnyheter%2F2003_02%2Fcanon_eos_d8 0.html) uses a laser rangefinder (21 point) to completely eliminate front/back focusing problems. it's unobtanium shell is weatherproofed against japanese typhoons and it will be the first body which supports the 7mm f/1.2 L IS USM ][ lens. it has dual firmware support and has the ability to post images and comments directly to boards through its 802.11x interface.

It's 20D and that's all there is to it. So what Canon haven't always followed the same naming convention with all there cameras so why should it be any different now. I think the name might be changing from 10 to 20 to give it some difference from the 1 series bodies. 10d mk11 looks very similar to 1d mk11, 20D is completely different.

Myself, I don't really care what it's called. And the longer it takes to come out, just means the longer it takes for my 10D to become obsolete. :wink:
Some things I'd like to see though:
- 8MP chip (i.e. 1.3 crop factor)
- DIGIC II
- faster (maybe 5-6 frames/sec)
- bigger buffer
- faster and better focusing system
- true spot metering
- faster flash sync
That's not too much to ask is it?

So why would it not be 10Dv or 10DN ?
EOS 300 (Rebel ...?) -> EOS 300v (Rebel Ti)
EOS 30 (Elan 7E) -> EOS 30v (Elan 7NE)
EOS 1 -> EOS 1N
Canon EOS type numbers have always been odd numbers. EOS 1, 3, 5, 10, 30, 300, 630, 650, ... why would they now suddenly call it 20D? Doesn't sound like a logical name to me.
We'll see what it will be.... IF there's going to be a 10D successor this year!!!
The name "1D Mark II" is also not logical at all. Why not "1DN" or "1Dv"?

Rather a final and impolite statement considering you have no facts whatsoever :roll:
It is far better to discuss your views rather than just adopting the I'm right you're wrong attitude you post suggests.

I didn't find it at the URL you provided, but here is the English version: http://www.sdcard.be/English/store/viewitem.asp?idproduct=8979348 (...just replaced "Nederlands" by "English"...)

Hi Jesper,
Thanks for that - I made the mistake of copying the URL while the actual page was in a frame.
Looking at the web site it looks like it's a functioning on-line business which actually sells cameras (among other things). I think that to allow pre-orders at a fixed price that they must have access to some inside information (or else they are taking a big gamble). I agree that the picture is probably a fake but I wonder about the specs. Time will tell.
Cheers
Michael

That altered photo has been doing the rounds for a while now.
A few things about show it to be, shall we say, suspect:
The lettering is not quite right
Why put the external WB sensor where it would be obscured by a finger ?
Indeed, if the camera uses the 1DMk2 sensor and Digic2, why would it need an external WB sensor at all - the 1DMk2 doesn't use one?
Yes there is a replacement due for release at Photokina and it seems likely to be 8.2Mp - other than that.......................
ETTL2 - yes
Better AF - probably.
Faster frame rate - 5fps - hopefully.
1.3x - if it uses the 1DMk2 sensor - yes. (Too close to 1DMk2 specification?)
1.6x - if it uses a new sensor at 8Mp - possibly.
Add your own ideas/hopes/wishes here............................................
