For some reason, the camera won't let me enable flash when I put it into macro mode. I have the manual at home which is 2,000 miles away, so that's not an option. If anyone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks

What mode are you in? Flash can't be set in Digital Macro, High ISO mode, Fireworks, or Aquarium. Also, according to the manual, "The exposure may not be optimal when the flash is used in Macro mode".

That's bizarre.. I had the original digital IXUS i, and flash worked perfectly in macro mode. I put it into manual, then digital macro mode. That sucks. How am I supposed to get a decent macro shot then?

Remember - digital macro's not the same as regular macro. Digital Macro's like Digital Zoom - they crop and enlarge from a smaller part of the sensor. Flash should work in regular macro; all digital macro will try to buy you is the same thing you'll get by cropping and resizing the image in post-processing.

You can download PDFs of the manuals from Canon USA (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=224&modelid=14220). If you have access to a computer with Acrobat, or have a flash drive with a PDF viewer, you don't need to worry about having the paper manual with you.

How do I get to regular macro mode? Thanks for the link! I'll definitely have to download it and re-read..

Just press the Macro (flower)/Infinity (mountain) button on the back.

I've got the manuals for probably 20 various Canons (including ones I don't have) on an 8 GB USB drive (with Foxit Reader) always with me.
