I eventually titled this photo, "Iridescence on Black." I used the magnetic lasso on PS Elements and selected the outlying edges of the tulips and stems. I used feathering but I can't remember what tolerance I used. I then filled in the background in black and got this final effect. I did not make any hue or saturation changes to the tulips, themselves.

Photograph took 3rd place in an "altered photos" category at a show I entered in August, 2006.

I've done a similar thing by taking a photo and making the background light dark and then using flash to expose the flowers. Saves using photoshop :-)
