I'm looking to buy a scanner to take pictures by directly scanning my subjects. Basically pulling in textures and stuff to blend in with my photography. Does anyone have any advice on buying a scanner for this purpose or using one?

I was looking at high end Epsons with dual lens, high D-max, and antireflection coatings. Would the scanning surface be more likely to scratch on a scanner like this or a cheap one?

No idea.
But you might want to read this (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/01/diy_build_a_sca.php) and this (http://golembewski.awardspace.com/cameras/scanner/index.html) for some additional ideas ;)

Thanks. Not what I was looking for, but very interesting.
