DescriptionPhotographers Wanted

Travel Channel Travel Channel is looking for still photographers to take pictures of landmarks in 30 cities in the United States. A list of landmarks for each city will be provided upon assignment. The vast majority of landmarks are within 10 miles of the cities' centers. The photographer will be responsible for providing jpeg files of each of the landmarks. The name of the landmark in the picture must appear in the location and caption info fields. Payment will be based upon the number of points of interest in a given city. The minimum number of points is expected to be no less than 40, with the top end being no more than 100. The rate is $30 per landmark with work needing to be completed within two weeks of receiving the assignment. Travel Channel will retain exclusive rights to the images. Through this project, we are hoping to build a network of photographers to draw on for other potential assignments. For more information go to http://www.travelchannel.com/photogs_wanted/, or send an email containing a small sampling of your work to travel.photogs@gmail.com.

It sounds interesting and something that would be fun to do, but the link doesn't work. Wonder if it is a scam or something.

Sounds interesting and fun to do but also sounds like a rip off for the price they are paying and wanting exclusive rights to the images. $30 for a web licence is a much more realistic price but I guess they will find some suckers to agree to do it.

$30 per landmark for basically a copyright grab (exclusive means the photographer can't use the images himself, nor sell them to anyone else). You would be better off shooting the images yourself and submitting them to stock. I wouldn't even think twice and passing on this one.

They don't have the full terms on their page. Keep an eye out for language like "the photographer agrees to fully indemnify the Travel Channel from all law suits blah blah blah..."

I'd hate to have someone take a photo of a landmark which they've been assigned to take and when the law suit comes, it's the photographer who takes the hit.

It's a bit confusing.

First, they say that payment is determined by "points", and then they say the rate is $30.00 per landmark.

The way I see it, if I send them a picture of a lighthouse, odds are I've taken about 200 photos of that lighthouse that day. It's not like I won't have more to choose from. If someone wants to pay me thirty bucks for a picture of a lighthouse, honestly, I'm cool with that...

I just went through the entire Travel Channel website, and I didn't find that link anywhere...

LOL, $30 per image? Some bonehead will take the job, but will probably fall short of their standards. Anyone with the slightest self respect would not think twice of passing on this gem.

It could just be a scam.

There was another scam going on recently where the Bank Atlantic Center (supposingly) ran an ad seeking a photographer to cover the Florida Panthers hockey games at home. They paid $100 for images (needing between 20-60) and reimbursed you for ticket fees and parking.

Had a real official looking email, they too used gmail accounts. Come to find out, they had about 30 photographers show up after being "accepted" for the position. They all bought tickets and never heard from the people behind the account again. The phone # provided was a 312 area code from a prepaid phone.

Seems like someone did that just as an attempt to boost lagging ticket sales.
