I have been impressed with the helpful words offered in here by members and get the feeling that those of you who have mastered the C5 are willing to help those of us who are not quite there yet. Photography has always been an interest to me and I recently upgraded to a Canon from a Fuji Finepix! I am hoping to learn how to effectively use the numerous settings on my camera in order to get some really nice pictures. Mind you, I have had some success, but just need to learn more! :)
Your patience and knowledge of the G5 will be a major key to my venture in mastering this camera.
Thanks.....Juanita

Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy your new G5. I think its a great camera and using it will definitely make you a better photographer.
I can offer you a couple of pieces of information I have found very useful (all taught to me by others in this forum or learned over time):
*In Av mode use F4.0 - F5.6. Its the sweet spot of the zoom lens and your pictures will be their best when taken in this range.
*Get a polarising filter for outdoor landscape shots. It removes reflections from shiny surfaces (eg leaves) and results in more saturated pleasing colours. I definitely recommend one for the G5. To attach it to your camera you will also need an adapter.
*On really bright days with lots of sun and shadows in the one photo, put the camera in low contrast mode. It helps retain detail in the shadows and highlights.
Hopefully you can offer me some tips too, I am still learning myself, I have only had my G5 for about 7 months.

Hello Juanita, Welcome aboard. These folks here are friendly and VERY knowledgeable and friendly. In fact, I had my 10D first, and because of some of the high quality photos I've seen here taken with "G" series cameras, I decided to get a G5 too.
Dont get me wrong, I love my 10D, but when I hang out with my friends in the model T, and T Bucket roadsters, I ride with my friend Bob in his roadster, and there just isn't enough room in that car for two people and a large bag full of accessories that would normally be required for the DSLR. Enter the G5, PERFECT! :D :D :D In fact, almost ALL of my car club photos that I post on this site are shot with the little "G".
