Originally I purchased a 300D, since then I have been doing nothing but sports photography so I bought a 10D. Now the dRebel sits.
Do I need to keep my 300D?
I have been invited to go to a local skate park and shoot a few guys for their portfolio. I sure would like a nice WA lens and selling the 300D would sure help.
So would I be ok with only one camera?

In my opinion (for whatever that's worth), the only people who absolutely need a bacukup camera are professionals who would be seriously impacted by a failure in the field. The rest of us are only inconvenienced when Old Faithful goes belly-up. If you can live without a camera for a couple weeks when things goes wrong, why own two bodies that are depreciating, especially when only one is being used?
I actually have a camera, a backup, and a backup backup. Why? Because I'm insane.

I'd sell, and maybe with your extra money, purchase a compact 3 or 4 mp point and shoot...THAT can be your backup camera for shooting at parties and stuff where you don't have a lot of room to store your gear.
And if the 10D dies, at least you have something to capture your shots with that isn't burning a 900 dollar hole in your pocket.
The only thing that might be a problem is that you might have to give up your 18-55 because I think 300Ds sell much better with kit lenses than without.

I think thats what I am going to do then...
300D, kit lens, everything that came in the box (except I dont have the box) Plus the grip and extra batteries.... I also purchased Best Buys 4yr replacement plan that does transfer (I called)
Thanks guys for your thoughts...
Should be in BUY/SELL this week.

I have used my 10D more than I thought I would. It is nice when a wide and long lens are both called for. And the 10D still produces beautiful shots. For what you can get selling it, I'd say keep the old one.

I never go anywhere without two bodies. The second is not just a backup, it has a different lens attached. My 10D is usually mated to a 500F4L and I'll have maybe a 300F4 attached to the 300D, or perhaps a zoom. It means I don't have to waste time switching lenses.
Of course, it all depends on what you're shooting and your particular needs but I wouldn't get rid of a body. I know have three film and four digital bodies, but then I too am insane :)

If you wanted to get by cheaply on the backup, purchase an old EOS film camera to back you up and it would have the ability to use your lenses.
