I still haven't been able to get out and shoot... It's either work or bad weather.

I'm still going through some older photo's and remembered this one from the zoo. He was just standing there in the Polar Bear exhibit area and I'd have to say he's not a common Michigan bird. Any idea what it is?

It was bright afternoon sunshine thus the harsh background. That's why I cropped it so tight.

I'm pretty curious what it is.

Thanks

Henry

I don't know much about US birds, but it looks like a night heron.

Steve, Gary, Steve..

Thank you for the ID. I did a little search on this bird and found the following:

The Black-crowned Night-Heron is listed as "endangered" in Indiana and Pennsylvania, "threatened" in Kentucky and New Jersey, a "species of greatest conservation need" in Maryland and New York, and a "species of special concern" in Michigan and Wisconsin.

This bird was outside at the zoo and would have plenty of oportunity to take off. He must have a pretty good gig there.

Thanks again

Henry
