I bought the Canon Digital Rebel kit and a Promaster 5750DX flash recently.

I take auto racing photos during the twilight and night time hours.

I have been taking some digital photos with a point n shoot Kodak 6490 which works very well in the twilight but not night time.

I've taken some shots with the new Canon and am having a couple of problems. (mainly user error I'm sure)

Most of the panning shots I take are just slightly blurred during the day or early evening.

All of my night shots are still very dark, even up close still photos.

I have been using the camera in full auto mode using the green square selection on the dial as well as the sports selection.

Just looking at getting any help or info that I can.

Thanks....

My first advice: shoot either AV mode, or Manual, and use higher ISO settings. If you use Sports (TV mode), and set your shutter speed, there's a good chance that shutter speed it too high to let enough light through.

As for the blur.... use only the center focus point, that'll hopefully do some good.

Good luck

for night shots you may want to choose Shutter Priority (Tv) instead of Aperture priority (Av). Decrease your shutter speed and increase your ISO speed. It will be very difficult for you to capture sharp racing shots at night unless you open your aperture all the way. Uless the place is lit you might be dealing with some motion blur because the shutter ought to be open for a longer time to let more light in.
