My wife has offered to buy me a lense for my 10D.

Not having thought I would ever get to spend a single cent more on photography, I am truely caught off guard.

I currently have the 28-135mm Canon zoom.

Any suggestions on new lenses? I really haven't had much need for wide angle, the 28mm on the 10D seems to be good enough. Where I have been cramped has been in light. I feel the f3.5-5.5 seems to be quite dark.

I've thought about the 100mm f2.0 canon USM lens (gives me some of the length, f2.0, and only costs a bit under 400.

Any other suggestions?

Because of the 1.6x magnification factor, some people prefer the 85mm prime to the 100mm. That said, the 100mm f/2 is a solid lens.

85 f1.8 and 50 f1.8............both should be around a few more extra bucks compared to the 100 f2.

A little bit of research leads me to believe that I can't possibly go wrong with the 85mm f1.8.

Better IQ then the 100mm, and lighter/faster focusing then the 85mm f1.2L.

I could use it for light sports, outdoors, portrait. Basically the stuff I currently use my incredibly slow 28-135mm Zoom.

I think I'll miss a bit at the wide angle, but then I can always switch lenses. Only low-light will the zoom not work well.

And don't forget to reward yourself with the 50 f1.8 for doing that research.

I second the 85mm f/1.8 recommendation.
