rick j,
A Full Frame camera has a sensor the same size as 35mm film. A cropped sensor is smaller then the full frame sensor. The difference can be seen in photos, ex a 10D with 50mm f/1.4 lens would have the same field of view as a FF 5D with an 80mm lens. The simple math is take the lens used on the 10D and times the mm x 1.6 to get the Field of View on a Full Frame camera.
Here is a macro photo taken with a 10D and a Full Frame 5D to see the difference in field of view. Both cameras used the Canon 100mm f/2.8 lens set at 1:1

As you can see it looks like the 10D had a 160mm macro lens on (100mm X 1.6 = 160mm).
I don't know about your Sigma lens but your Canon lenses will all work on any DSLR camera made by Canon. The 10D only accepts EF lenses newer models like 20D, 30D, 40D, 350D, 400D accept EF and EF-s lenses. The EF-s lenses wont work with a FF DSLR, as the mirror would hit the lens.

All of the lenses that you can use on a 10D will work on any other EOS camera. The newer EF-S lenses, however, which were designed specifically for the smaller-format APS-C cameras starting with the originial "300D" Digital Rebel, are designed so that they will not mount to a conventional EOS mount (that takes EF lenses only). That is because the EF-S lenses project further into the mirror box of the camera and they could collide with the mirror in larger format SLR cameras.

thanks for explaining , so basically, you can get the same results with both cameras but with different lens's, also good to hear all my len's will work if I change camera, look's like I can buy more glass now with out worrying :lol:

Time to wheel out my visualisation again, I think.
On the left is the view through a Canon EF lens, showing how much of the picture is captured by a full-frame sensor (1Ds, 5D), a 1.3x crop sensor (1D) and a 1.6x crop sensor (20D/30D/40D, 300D/350D/400D). On the right is the same view through a Canon EF-S lens, and you can see why they only fit cameras with 1.6x crop sensors.

Yes as long as that new glass does not include and EF-s lenses (in canon brand, others brand use different letters), they are for "crop cameras" only. Sorry if this renews your confusion but those lenses do not project a big enough image inside the camera to cover a full frame sensor.
