View Full Version : 28-135 Lens Zoom Creep

I have a second hand 28-135 IS USM Canon lens that works perfectly. Glass is excellent and slight scratch on mounting ring. I want to know if when the lens is held front down that a halfway extension of the zoom ring would be considered normal for a used lens? If held vertically (front up) the extension stays as extended. It is a little loose compared to a new one but I surmise that they all loosen up to some degree when used over time. One could make the argument that this makes the zoom smoother. It could affect a macro shooter. Canon tech support claims this is normal. What is a fair value for a lens in this condition ? Thanx for your input.

I have the lens and yes, it creeps. Not a big deal though as it's a fairly small lens.

Definitely the lens - it creeps. I had mine into Canon for repair and it still creeps afterward. Never met one that didn't.

I think the creep is normal. But not always bad... A friend of mine has this lens, and the creep is annoying her, so she is ordering a new one and giving me the creeping one! :)

Eventually, she will give you another 28-135...

8) It's normal for the 28-135 to creep. The 70-300 DO even has a zoom lock button, with which you can lock the lens at the 70mm position. Wouldn't it be nice if Canon would make a new version of the 28-135 with zoom lock button and the new, 2-mode IS?
