Let me first start by saying I am sorry if these are dumb questions.

On my 70-200 there are 2 shooting modes, 1.5m to inf and 3m to inf.

1. What does this do?
2. My AF does not operate when switched to 3m to inf... is this normal?
3. If not... I bought this lens used and do not have the warranty card. I did however receive the original receipt. Am I screwed?

Thanks
Matt

This has to do with selecting the distance away from your subject you are. So if you ar less than 3 meters from your subject and you have this set 3m to inf it will not focus. This will allow the camera to focus quicker. I have 1.4m or 4.6 ft to infinity and 2.5 or 8.2ft to infinity on my 70-20 L series lens. So if I am 5 feet away from my subject and have set at 2.5 to infinity my lens will not focus. Hopefully this is your problem.

OK now I understand what the purpose is... but the camera does not even try to focus when switch to 3m. It acts like its in MF mode. The AF only works in 1.5m.

Thats what I am worried about. :?

Uh-oh............something is very very wrong with your lens!!!

It should work..............my f4 version works in both modes.

This happened to one of my lenses, the 85mm EF,
but the problem went away by itself. Try cleaning
the lens and camera contacts; then turn camera
on off; then focus on infinity in MF and then switch
AF focus and focus on something very close, e.g.,
1.5 meter away.

If still doesn't work, try again after installing freshly
recharged batteries. If this doesn't solve it after a
couple tries, go ahead and bend over -- you're
screwed.

If it doesnt work I'll contact canon. What do they charge to repair something like this?

I'd have to double check but...when you are in .3-inf. you must be at at least .3 before it'll focus..just an idea.

Shouldnt the AF at least try to focus though? I dont know...
