is there such a thing as a photo-editing program that comes with a decent manual, reasonably priced, able to do more than just basic functions, has a fairly decent learning curve, doesnt require you to purchase more books to learn how to use the program, and spend countless hours scouring the web to find tutorials that often add even more cost?i'm dreaming right?

Do you want a program where you can push a button or push a few sliders and it does the work for you? Well yes, they all can. They are the basic functions.

All photo-editing applications have basic functions that you do not need to learn that well but they usually act on the photo as a whole. Such as convert to B&W, increase colour saturation, alter brightness/contrast, apply sharpness, etc.

If you want to do anything more complicated or intricate then you will need to put the effort in to learn the fine controls because they can't second guess for you.

I know what your talking about. I remember when software and hardware both always came with a manual and you could study it without booting up and reading from the screen.
It was much more convenient because you could access it anytime and anyplace. I miss those days
