I spent the best part of today processing my photos from. a month ago. Would appreciate some feedback before I post them on my website.

Thanks in advance.

#1 is too boring, #2 looks pretty cool because you included something in the foreground.

One thing that always makes a picture work is to give it depth. If your eyes naturally look into the photo, then it'll work. #1 would have had more impact to bend down and get closer to the ground to put something in the foreground.

That's just my two cents

Nice work though

I agree. Number two is nice - love the perspective and the leading lines, but number one just looks like a snapshot. I would have tried getting right down to those ripples in the water, as close as I could using a wide angle lens, to show the interesting patterns and to give a sense of depth to the photo. Or maybe put a rock, or a tree stump or whatever in the foreground instead of a boring patch of grass. I would have also tried shooting in the early morning or late afternoon hours to get some nice color in the sky.

I don't have problems with either shot...great job.

I like the 2nd shot of the two. I like the foreground and the cliffs in this photo and I bet it would be nice during sunrise and sunset.

I like the second one best, but both work and are very well done.

I like both, but think that No. 2 is the one I like best.

While the histograms say that both pictures are properly exposed, #1 seems to me to be slightly over-exposed, while #2 seems to be right on.

The composition is very nice in both scenes.

Congratulations!

Thanks all.

Bob - that's what I was really after. My main concern was the brightness and contrast. I'm working on a laptop and having to over-lighten the images to compensate for the brightness of the screen.

Both were composites of two versions of the same RAW file. I used the darker one to restore the colour in the sky and the details in the snow covered mountains. I could have gone darker but then it starts to look unnatural.

I really like #1. Next time try to do a stitch. I find that with mountains, it really makes a nice shot.

Thanks Nathan. I've never tried stitching before. Wouldn't fit with the other pictures on my website! Worth trying though when I get some time and suitable subject.

That second one is just fantastic curious.
The contrasting gray beach dividing the white mountains and white water is very catchy to the eye. Lovely exposure as well.

Thanks Frank. Iceland is built of black volcanic basalt, it's everywhere and makes for some quite out-of-this-world landscapes. Especially the lava fields.

I really like the second on as well.

What are you doing in Iceland now?

Thanks Mike.

I'm working on a contract out here, initially till the end of the year, but I'd love to stay at least until the spring.

Looking forward to seeing some northern lights too, if I can brave the freezing nights!

I'd love to go to Iceland! The best place I've ever gone was to Alaska for a year (USAF). Too bad I wasn't into photography back then...
