Let me know what you think. All shot with a Xti w/ 85 f/1.8.

Taken during the annual Midnight Magic event at UCI, where they introduce the basketball team and have a slam dunk contest etc. first time shooting such a big event, and boy it was SOOO exciting :), especially with my press badge.

I like the action stop, but would like to see more separation from the audience/background. Were flashes allowed? Maybe a quick pop for some rim or fill would do the trick. Great timing!

hrm, how would i get more separation between the basketball player and the audience. i was shooting at my largest aperture of 1.8 on my 85 f/1.8.

Love 'em! :)

I can't wait until our high school basketball season starts. We have two (identical twin) juniors and a sophomore who can now dunk. I'm looking forward to an entertaining season.

These are awesome. The timing and the emotion is right on. I think sometimes we get overly technical. I have the 85 1.8 but have only used it for peope shots.
Thanks for sharing.

by getting closer to the subject. the distance between you and the subject plays a factor.

haha, i never thought of that. thanks! even though it might be a little hard since my crop was already very tight with the 85mm. thanks for the positive comments guys, any other feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

try shooting them from the corner(if you have access) because you get a cool angle and it just works. good pix
