ok, I used to ride at Karrawatha a lot but the Council has rolled a lot of the tracks . A few years back I went over the bars in slow mo going down a steep section. I bad as I was doing it too slow to start with and this gave the front wheel a chance to bite into some loose gravel. Mind you, nothing I did could really classified as Downhill. It's about 10min ride from my place to the Compton Rd entry, nothing like a good steep climb to start with.

I like what you have done here, no.3 in particular. You've allowed image editing, so I've taken no.3 and cropped it in a way which I think would be way more dramatic. It also cuts out a lot of that dark area above and below the rider. :)
Of course, to get a shot like that in camera you would need a telephoto lens and a damn quick shutter finger. ;)

thanks rob. i like your crop, too. i think i have some bizarre aversion to shooting in landscape. for some reason, almost all of my riding shots are in portrait orientation. strange!
also, a quick shutterfinger i have, but the 18-55 kit lens is no Tele :p

andrew, where was the flash placed in these shots? on the bike, i gather?
do you know of a guy called 'big dan' (daniel wolfick), rides a v10 if i remember correctly.

I love #4. The eye contact is there, the lighting with both flahs is good and love the atmosphere.

andrew, where was the flash placed in these shots? on the bike, i gather?these were all using 2 flashes. essentially one camera left and the other camera right. in the first two, the flash on camera right was set lower and in front of the riders to light up the face under the visor, whilst the left flash was set higer and more to the side to provide fill.
the 2nd two have the same essential set up, just reversed. low down on camera left, higher up on the right. if you look closely in number 3 you can actually just see the flash head poking out from behind the big tree, just below where the bunting is tied.
well that was the idea, though im not so sure how well they both served their intended purposes. there was quite little ambient light in the rainforest, so really both have provided a fair amount of both fill and under-the-visor lighting.
anyway, long winded post, sorry ;)

Great images! What flash units are you using? How are you firing them? Thanks for the info!

Great images! What flash units are you using? How are you firing them? Thanks for the info!a 580exII and a borrowed 580exI, fired using an ST-e2 transmitter. im never sure how my transmitter is going to go when i'm out shooting, but it's been pretty good. yesterday was funny - i just set my flashes up and it was fine, while a freind with the Ebay triggers spent ages setting his flash up to get it to fire

Four good pictures. Movement stopped and good focusing, you've put the flashes to good use, good to see the faces lit up and better still to see the riders eyes.
Top Shots.....:)
