C@C Welcome and encouraged.

I like #1, 3 and 4.
On #2 it's a pity the mic stand is over the second guys face.
#5 is nice, but the singers face is blown and it looks a bit soft (?).
#6 is too wide IMO.

Thanks guys.
for number 6 I was trying to get as many different shots as I could from the single spot I had to stand in the whole show.
Ill try and repost the one shot with the blown out face...i don't recall that being blown out when i posted it the first time. I was surprised how well the 1d2n handled 1600 iso and how well i handled 1/80th shutter.
and number 5 is a bit soft...I have still yet to use the fish enough to understand where the heck Im supposed to focus seems almost like it hit focus on the girl holding the camera in the black shirt.

How cute! A whole like of P&S folks with their thighs against the stage ... back in the day, when I was a boy, we went to concerts to listen to the music, dance with the girls (and whatever else we could get away with) and enjoy the ambiance. We used our memories to know what we had seen.

i know this is an old thread, but how were you able to shoot them? were you in the crowd? did you get clearance from lifehouse? I just came from getting asked to leave a concert cause the tour manager didnt want me taking photos. Not even the production group that brought them down to Hawai‘i could take photos...they found out that night... I even explained to the tour manager that i was a photojournalist with a local newspaper (college newspaper..but he didnt need to know that) but he said nay. i guess he kept an eye on me cause i snapped some photos and he had security make me leave.

I also heard they, at least recently, are a very difficult pass to get and wonder why that is.
Did your paper do what papers in Europe have done and print a black spot where the pic would have gone and add text that normally there would be a photo and review of the concert but the paper is printing a black space instead because Lifehouse's tour manager wouldn't let them.

Lifehouse was playing this show for a fundraiser for the venue I work for (im the staff photographer for Artpark in Lewiston, NY). I was actually asked to stop halfway through the second song even though I had a lifehouse photo pass (I didnt obviously).
I was the only photog there (I am unaware if anyone else applied for credentials seeing as it was a very small show...prob 500 people?)

So despite being with the venue/the one paying the bills, the tour manager (?) stopped you.
Did you ever find out why they are being so draconian about photographers?
btw, I am not sure what size of the venue has to do with people applying for photo passes ... the issue isn't size, it's gas money, ie. if the venue is drivable, someone most likely applied to photog.

Im not sure who it was that tried to stop be, but the venue was so small that the 3 songs were up before he was able to get to me (there were about 500 people in a venue built for 200).
I meant that the show was so small that the big dailies probably didn't care enough to cover it (at least around here, you never see dailies covering small shows).
I'm having a problem getting credentials for AP Tour right now. I know just random people that have gotten them to shoot for fun, and i'm with a publication and have not received an e-mail from any of the 20+ people i have emailed.
My publication is a weekly (about 100,000 readers a week) and we were laughed at by Avril Lavigne/Boys Like Girls, Michael Buble, and a few other larger acts. Avril said we "only allow one daily per show along with the house photographer for the venue".

screw those divas.
the more i read about crap like this, the happier i am shooting smaller bands.

I'm a pretty well respected house photographer but I get cut off at the knees a couple of times a year even by acts that allow photography elsewhere. Lyle Lovett and Englebert Humperdinck as well as Julio Inglesias all disallowed my photography. Hey, these people have issues just like everyone else ... most probably ought to be on Prozac or maybe it's just "their people" trying to appear useful when they really have nothing to do. I'm with Narlus ... I've shot acts bigger and better than them who were gracious so I'm not the least impressed.

I would love to see what the bands would have to say if they knew what their managers were doing. I think press coverage is press coverage. I may be with a small publication of only 100,000 people a week, but thats still 100,000 people that may not have heard of their band before. I wish i was a writer too so I could write negative reviews...haha.

hey folks, thanks for the replies.
like i said earlier...i thought it was kinda ridiculous that BAMP, the production group that brought them down to Hawai‘i wasn't even allowed to take photos and that they weren't told they couldn't take until THAT night.
i just thought it was pretty messed up. I was going to write a review too cause im pulling double duty, but i dont think so now. dont want to make BAMP look bad. my friend works them. :-(

And right now, Lifehouse could use the press (they pretty much disappeared form the music scene).

I'm going to advise the zines I shoot for and ask them to refuse to publish any news on Lifehouse and advise the record and pr company that if they are not willing to give access and courtesy to press with disdain then don't expect free access and courtesy when they want to get their press releases and news published.

Think we should make a "credentials suck to get" thread over here? or credential stories or problems or whatnot. Seems like people have stuff to say about the topic.

It is and it's a reminder that there is an ecosystem here and the press, including the many hardly paid zine publishers make contributions to the world of "infotainment" that we all enjoy and deserve respect.
It's about time the arrogant - we don't have to give you access/get to control things - artists and their suits get told by media - well, we don't have to print your press releases, tour and release dates, appearances, nominations, etc. either.
