Which one is the better value?

Depends on what you want. I have both. I bought the Pro 1 because it has improvements and extended capabilities over the G5, but I love both.

Sometimes my girlfriend makes a better shot with the G5 than I made with the Pro 1, of the same subject, but that's something else... :lol:

Is portability of Pro-1 an issue, compared to G-5?

Not really. The Pro 1 is more rounded than the G5, but similar dimensions in different configurations. The Pro 1 is more solid with 640g compared to the G5 with 481g. I like the feel, heft and grip of the Pro 1 better.
