Hi!

My battery (orig. Canon) keeps slipping out of its lock (the brownish thing) whenever I open the battery/CF-compartment. S'it a known/general problem? Any cures?

Yeah, some people were discussing that awhile back. It's a defective catch. To deal with it, some people were roughing up the side of the battery to create more friction, but I think you can get that replaced by Canon.

Hi,

I had the same problem until I realised that the battery catch was not in place when I closed the battery compartment lid. I had used the battery compartment lid to push the battery down.

The catch is tricky. Don't push the battery down too hard or it will bounce. Push it down carefully until the catch eases into place. I haven't had a problem with the catch since I used this technique. Take your time.

Had the same problem with my S30. No amount of roughing up the battery helped.

Ended up that it was a defective catch. Canon told me that they were aware that some cameras were released this fault. I sent it in to be repaired under warranty. No problem now. The catch holds the battery quite firmly.

Don't put up with it. Contact Canon.

No ammount of slowlyness helps so I'll send it back to Canon when I don't need it for a while.

funny, i actually contacted canon about this about two months ago and they replied to me that it was not a known problem but that I could send it in to have them look at it. i would like to send it in but i'm afraid of how long they may have my camera. so i'm probably just going to ignore it. if it does eventually break the compartment lid, it should be covered so i'll deal with it then.
