A lesser known scenic area for great photography is the Dolly Sods Wilderness area (not far from Canaan Valley in Davis, West Virginia). Beware however that the road to Dolly Sods is an unpaved forest road and is very rough - you must take it slow if you are not in a truck or SUV or you will find yourself putting on a spare tire. Take my word for it: if you are not used to mountain roads (suicide curves and driving next to cliffs), then get someone to take you.

I took these three weeks ago during the last week in September - usually this is peak time for fall foliage up there, but the drought made everything turn later and with less vivid color. I'll just have to give it another go next fall...

C&C Appreciated...

These rock formations are at the opposite end of the summit shown here and are named: "Bear Rocks".
Smoke Hole River and Seneca Valley is on the right...

Great job. Looks like the leaves are really starting to change. Can't wait to see them myself!

I just spent the last week in the canaan valley area, colors were amazing, it was great. dolly sods was closed the whole time i was there for a search and rescue of a missing hiker, but i think hes been found and its been reopened. also, they're having bear problem there this year, apparently there's an aggressive bear thats made several attempts to attack solo hikers and campers...
