I think it's a great shot ...

expression, tonality and composition are great. Two thumbs up 8)

Only thing I might consider is applying a little more USM to make it 'crisper'

I added some more USM to it. But, I won't quite get crisp without oversharpening. In fact, right now it is a little to sharpened.

Could the sharping problems be because I shot this with an A70? I know its not known for delivering the most sharp shots.

What an awesome candid. I love the black background and the deep shadows around his mouth emphasizing his laugh.

There've been several threads about Henri Cartier-Bresson (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39283) in the last two days -- your photo makes me think of some of his street portraits.
