I am stuck right now. I am having a photoshoot on Thursday with a girl in one of my classes and have no idea what types of shoots I should do?

My set up is - 30d
- 70-200f/2.8
- 50mm f/1.8
- Kit lense
-580exII flash
-Rebel xt body (backup)


What techniques should I use? I dont really know what my surrounding are going to be like because of the weather but its outdoors near a beach.

I want to do a good job but have no experience in doing portraits. Plus on top of that I just got my flash like 1 week ago and am still learning how to use it.

Any suggestions on some good fashion/portrait shots I could try to set up for Thursday?

My lighting will be the natural light and my 580exII flash. *on camera only :[*

What class is it that you two are in and why are you "stuck" photographing her? Why did you agree to do something, by your posting and freaking out here, that you are not prepared to do?

Look at other portraits taken that you would like to emulate and then try to emulate them. If you do not know how then post back here with maybe a link to the image you like and ask how to create a certain look. Then we might be able to help. But just ask how to take a picture of a girl in you class outdoors is a VERY broad question. We don't know what you don't know and judging by your gear list it is apparent that you know something, so take a breath, zero in on where you need help and we will try and help.

I mean by how should I use my lighting? I only have a 580ex flash and whatever light is outside

should i buy a off camera cord for my 580 flash? or a 2 reflectors for outdoor portraits?
